The Lincoln/Lancaster County Citizen Corps is a Homeland Security grant funded program administered through Lincoln/Lancaster County Emergency Management and operated by Volunteer Partners. The goal of the Citizen Corps is to have citizens AWARE of potential community hazards, PREPARED to respond to them accordingly, COMMITTED to following appropriate protocols, and CONNECTED to organizations that utilize or supplement their abilities and strengths.
In addition to Lincoln/Lancaster County Emergency Management and Volunteer Partners, other Citizen Corps affiliate agencies include the Mutual Aid Firefighters Association of Lancaster County, Lancaster County Red Cross, Salvation Army of Lincoln, Lincoln Public Schools, Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, and Lancaster County Medical Society.
The program includes several components: 1. Emergency Volunteer Centers (EVC), 2. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, 3. Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).
Each component is interrelated, volunteer-based and shares common goals of homeland security, disaster preparedness, and community and family safety.
